What is sight with no vision?

Helen Keller once said, ” The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.”

You are probably thinking what does this have to do with mental health? Well let me tell you, you can see this quote in many ways but for our purpose, I’ll show you why it relates to mental health.

For me, this reminds me of the ignorance of mental health, ignorance of the importance of parental support, and most importantly the ignorance of those who want to believe that everything is okay with our youth of the world.

Awareness of mental health is the whole reason for We Mean to Help. A lot of the stigma that surrounds mental health is when people turn a blind eye to the health of those who are struggling.

The older generation they don’t seem to see what is really the cause of these problems among teens, tweens, and young adults. So the ways that they handle it is by saying phrases that essentially brush away and hide the problem at hand which is, ” Suck it up buttercup”, ” Get tougher skin”, ” keep it in the family”, and ” you aren’t depressed/anxious”, ” You are fine, I don’t know what you are complaining about”, and other hurtful phrases that not only worsen the problem but push away those who are closest to you.

People need to see more than what is in front of them. You can see a lot more about a person than what they look like on the outside it is on the inside where the true vision of a person can be seen.
